IPTV on Phones, Tablets & PCs

Watch IPTV anywhere — set up streaming on Android, iOS, Windows and Mac.

Watch IPTV on Devices You Already Own

You do not need a dedicated streaming box to watch IPTV. Your phone, tablet or computer works perfectly well. All you need is a stable internet connection and an IPTV app — both of which you can set up in under five minutes.

Phones and tablets turn IPTV into something portable. Watch live TV on your commute, catch up on sport while travelling, or stream films in bed without fighting over the living room television. Laptops and desktops give you a bigger screen and the option to multitask while you watch.

Every major platform — Android, iOS, Windows and macOS — has multiple IPTV apps available. Some are free, some cost a few pounds. The setup process is straightforward on all of them: install an app, enter your login details and start watching. If you are completely new to IPTV, our getting started with IPTV guide covers the basics before you dive in. This guide walks you through each platform step by step.

IPTV on Android Phones and Tablets

Android is the most flexible platform for IPTV. The Google Play Store has a wide selection of dedicated IPTV apps, and you can also sideload APKs directly if needed. Whether you have a Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, OnePlus or any other Android device, the setup process is the same.

Recommended Apps

  1. IPTV Smarters Pro — the most popular IPTV app on Android. Clean interface, easy login via Xtream Codes API, and supports multiple playlists. Free to use with optional premium features.
  2. TiviMate — the best overall IPTV experience on Android. Excellent EPG (electronic programme guide), picture-in-picture mode and customisable channel groups. The premium version is well worth it for serious IPTV users.
  3. XCIPTV Player — a clean, lightweight alternative that loads quickly and handles large channel lists without slowing down. Good choice for older or budget Android devices.

How to Set Up

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
  2. Search for your preferred IPTV app (IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate or XCIPTV) and tap Install.
  3. Open the app once installation completes.
  4. Select Xtream Codes API as the login method.
  5. Enter your server URL, username and password from your subscription email.
  6. Tap Add User or Login and wait for your channel list to load.

Your channels will appear organised by category. Browse live TV, films, series and catch-up content depending on what your subscription includes. Not sure which subscription is right for you? Our guide on how to choose an IPTV provider breaks down what to look for.

Tip: Downloading channels for offline viewing is not available with live IPTV. You need an active internet connection to stream. Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or have sufficient mobile data before starting.

IPTV on iPhone and iPad (iOS)

Apple devices handle IPTV well, though the App Store has fewer dedicated IPTV players than Google Play. The apps that are available work reliably and look great on Retina displays. iPads in particular make excellent portable IPTV screens thanks to their larger displays and strong speakers.

Recommended Apps

  1. IPTV Smarters Pro — the iOS version works just as well as the Android app. Supports Xtream Codes API login and M3U playlists. Free to download.
  2. GSE Smart IPTV — a reliable alternative with a solid track record on iOS. Supports M3U, Xtream Codes and JSON playlists. Built-in player handles most stream formats without issues.
  3. IPTVX — a lightweight, no-fuss option that does the basics well. Quick to set up and easy to navigate.

How to Set Up

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Search for your preferred IPTV app and tap Get to install it.
  3. Open the app and choose to add a playlist via Xtream Codes API or M3U URL.
  4. Enter your login credentials (server URL, username and password) and tap Add or Login.
  5. Wait for the channel list to load, then start watching.

Note: Some IPTV apps on iOS require a one-time purchase. IPTV Smarters Pro is free but may show ads. GSE Smart IPTV has a free version with an optional paid upgrade to remove ads and unlock extra features.

Apple restricts some IPTV functionality compared to Android. You cannot sideload apps without jailbreaking, and background playback may be limited depending on the app. However, you can cast from your iPhone or iPad to an Apple TV using AirPlay — this gives you the best of both worlds: easy setup on your phone with playback on the big screen.

IPTV on Windows PC and Laptop

Windows is a strong platform for IPTV. You have access to both dedicated IPTV apps and powerful media players that handle M3U playlists natively. A laptop or desktop with a decent screen makes for a comfortable viewing experience, especially if you want to watch while working.

Recommended Apps

  1. VLC Media Player — free, open source and plays virtually any stream format. Handles M3U playlists without any extra plugins. The most reliable option for Windows IPTV.
  2. Kodi with PVR IPTV Simple Client — a full media centre with EPG support, channel grouping and a customisable interface. Requires a bit more setup but delivers the most feature-rich experience on a PC.
  3. IPTV Smarters Pro — a Windows desktop version is available from your IPTV provider. Same familiar interface as the mobile app.
  4. MyIPTV Player — available free from the Microsoft Store. Supports M3U playlists and EPG, with a clean Windows-native interface.

VLC Setup

VLC is the quickest way to get IPTV running on Windows. Download it from the official VLC website if you do not already have it installed.

  1. Open VLC Media Player.
  2. Go to Media > Open Network Stream.
  3. Paste your M3U playlist URL into the network URL field.
  4. Click Play. Your channels will load and playback begins automatically.

Kodi Setup

  1. Open Kodi and go to Settings > Add-ons > Install from Repository.
  2. Find and install the PVR IPTV Simple Client addon.
  3. Open the addon settings and enter your M3U playlist URL and EPG URL.
  4. Restart Kodi. Your channels and programme guide will appear under the TV section.

IPTV on Mac

macOS has fewer dedicated IPTV apps than Windows, but the options that are available work well. VLC is the go-to choice for most Mac users, and IINA offers a more polished macOS-native experience.

Recommended Apps

  1. VLC Media Player — works identically to the Windows version. Free, open source and handles every stream format you will encounter.
  2. IINA — a native macOS video player built on top of mpv. Supports M3U playlists, has a beautiful interface that fits right into macOS, and performs well even on older Macs.
  3. Kodi — available for macOS with the same PVR IPTV Simple Client addon. Full EPG support and channel management.

VLC Setup on Mac

  1. Open VLC Media Player.
  2. Go to File > Open Network.
  3. Paste your M3U playlist URL and click Open.
  4. Your channels load and playback starts immediately.

Note: macOS has fewer dedicated IPTV apps than Windows. VLC is the most reliable cross-platform option and should be your first choice if you are unsure which app to use.

Tips for Mobile and PC Streaming

Getting IPTV running is the easy part. Keeping it running smoothly takes a bit of awareness about your connection, device settings and streaming habits. These tips apply to every platform covered in this guide.

  • Use Wi-Fi instead of mobile data when possible. IPTV uses between 1 and 3 GB per hour depending on stream quality. That adds up fast on a mobile data plan. Connect to Wi-Fi whenever you can.
  • Lower stream quality on mobile data. If you must use mobile data, switch to a lower quality stream in your IPTV app settings. SD quality uses roughly 700 MB per hour compared to 3 GB for HD.
  • Cast to your TV for a bigger screen. Use Chromecast, AirPlay or a simple HDMI cable to send your phone or laptop screen to the television. You get the convenience of mobile setup with the comfort of watching on a large display.
  • Use a VPN on public Wi-Fi. Public networks are not secure. A VPN encrypts your traffic and keeps your streaming activity private. See our guide on why you need a VPN for IPTV for full details.
  • Keep your device software updated. Operating system and app updates often include performance improvements and security patches that directly affect streaming stability.
  • Close other apps to free up resources. IPTV apps need processing power and memory. Close browsers, games and other heavy apps before starting a streaming session, especially on phones with limited RAM.
